“Closer to the Wind”/”Sweet Texas Girl”
Dark Hollow’s 2010 CD Shadow of the Sun contains two songs, “Closer to the Wind” and “Sweet Texas Girl,” re-recorded for this release. The original studio versions of these tunes, unreleased until now, were committed to tape in 1990/1991 and feature a different lineup of musicians and arrangements.
“Closer to the Wind” is from a fall 1990 recording session featuring Jerry Gormley, Mike Curry, Ernie Trionfo, Katie Coltri and me. The song is one in a series of compositions Jerry and I wrote individually and collaboratively at the time that utilized imagery or iconography from the Old West in the telling of a tale. “Sweet Texas Girl” was recorded in February 1991 as part of an acoustic session. It was written by Jerry Gormley who, along with Katie Coltri and myself, plays on the track. The song would qualify as an “Old West” composition and is arranged for multiple guitar and vocal parts, bass and mandolin. Copyright: Gormley 2007
