“Hot, Hazy and Miles”/”The Wheel”
As a musical ensemble, Dark Hollow spent the 1990s and early 2000s exploring a sound that embraced all of the arts and challenged the customary “thinking inside the box.” Here are two of our tracks from that period that best exemplify this.
-
“Bebop bleeds big and thick out of waterfront back alleys.” The title and opening lines of “Hot Hazy and Miles,” from Dark Hollow’s eponymous debut, identify this as a paean to the giants of Jazz and the language of the Beats, a shifting mix of words, vocals, instruments and moods. The song was written by Jerry Gormley and myself and recorded by Katie Coltri, Joe Bocchetti and me. This version is a digital remaster of the track. Copyright: Farinaccio/Gormley 1996
“Hot, Hazy and Miles”
Co-composed with Jerry Gormley, “The Wheel” was recorded in 2002 for Dark Hollow’s Driftin’ CD and features Joe Bocchetti, Mike Spina, Ernie Trionfo, Katie Coltri and me. I’ve always felt that the track successfully captured in sound the impressionistic imagery contained in the lyrics. This version is a digital remaster of the track. Copyright: Farinaccio/Gormley 1992
